To try out Smart Compose you need to be running the new version of Gmail on a PC or laptop. Tap the Settings cog at the top right and choose ‘Try the new Gmail’. You also need to enable experimental access in Gmail. Again tap the Settings cog icon, then choose Settings. On the General tab scroll down to and enable Experimental Access. Click Save changes at the bottom of the page.
Gmail will take you back to your Inbox. Tap the Settings cog again, and click Settings. On the General tab look for an option for Smart Compose. If it’s there, check it is turned on. If it is not there you’ll have to come back later as the changes are rolling out gradually.
With Smart Compose enabled, tap the Compose button to begin writing a new email. The feature uses machine learning to make suggestions, and should get better over time.
